Finding Empty Spaces: Kevin Jansen
In this day and age it's hard to ever find a moment alone, a moment where amongst the crowds of people you can physically or mentally enjoy a second to yourself. Filmmaker and photographer Kevin Jansen's upcoming surf film "Please Have Fun," is based on the premise of finding your empty spaces. It could be as simple as a day at crowded Malibu or Rincon and you get one wave all to yourself, where it's physically just you, the only human on the wave. We spent the day with Jansen where he told us more about his film. Music by: Big Bill Broonzy - “See See Rider"
Who Is: Jonathan McDonald
Snowboarder Jonathan "Mamba" McDonald makes Frontside 540s look easy and is on the short list of riders who can link multiple tricks in a single first track descent, which he demonstrates with finesse anytime he's on the mountain. Having grown up as an outsider in a predominately white neighborhood, McDonald was an unlikely participant in the snow sport, but shook every preconception with unmatched style on a snowboard and undying love for riding. We sit down with McDonald as he tells us about his decision to pursue snowboarding as a life path, having the chance to show his mom his skills, and going to Super Park 17 as a wildcard only to be the single guy that landed a triple backflip at the competition.
Pop-punk pioneers Descendents discuss the personal trials, harrowing hardship, and familial bond that inspired and is documented on their first LP in 12 years, Comeback Kid. Before the band’s sold out show at the Palladium in Los Angeles, we sit down with Milo Aukerman and Bill Stevenson about their hard-won group dynamic and why their still happy to be playing music.
